Our Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (Tx-DSHS).  This program is six weeks in length (60 hours). This is a group therapy course for those who are currently experiencing problems related to substance abuse and having difficulty discontinuing the use , or are experiencing problems at work, home, or school due to substance abuse. We accept court referred as well as individuals who are tired of repeating the same mistakes and would like guidance , help, and support to enter a life of recovery. In our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) We discuss the following topics :

 

Week 1:  Spiritual Aspects – 12 Step Recovery, 12 Step Principles, Spirituality as “Connections”between self and areas that make up life, Acceptance and “Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness”

Week 2:  Volitional Aspects – Growth and Development of Personality, Personality defects and disorders with effects on substance use, Values, 12 step Recovery principles and methods of identifying underlying. Core values and issues in continuing recovery, Ego roller coaster

Week 3:  Mental Aspects – Cognitive self-change, common thinking errors and distortions with emphasis on effects of substance use and recovery, Addiction/offender cycle, use of cognitive tools in problem solving and goal setting processes

Week 4:  Physical Aspects – definition of addiction/alcoholism, terminology in the disease process, physical recovery recommendations including need for abstinence, utilizing action plans and relapse prevention skills including warning sign identification and development of prevention strategies, physical consequences of substance use including information on HIV/STDs/Hepatitis, and improving  health in recovery

Week 5:  Emotional Aspects – identification of emotions in continuance of physical/neurobiological  influences and anatomy of emotions, difficult emotions and effects of substance use including Fear, anger, Grief/loss, Guilt/Shame, and others, including Euphoric recall. Information of PAWS with emphasis on stress management and developing assertiveness in recovery.  Application of acronyms TIPS and HALT in emotional coping in sobriety

Week 6:  Social Aspects –   mainly in identifying effects of substance use in the family and in social situations, including identification of needs in the family, family roles, codependency and recovery recommendations, communication emphasis including some transactional analysis and reality therapy  suggestions in noting importance of use of support, use of time, and responsibility

The Intensive Outpatient Intake Process consists of a screening for alcohol/drug use issues, providing an overview of the course , development of your IOP treatment plan, and enrolling into the intensive outpatient program. This appointment is approximately 1.5 hours.
